The Leipoldt Exhibition Room, an original family member
Louis Leipoldt was christened Christian Frederik Louis Leipoldt, but was always known simply as C. Louis Leipoldt, the South African poet who wrote in Afrikaans.
He was also an avid botanist and wrote novels, plays, stories, children’s books, cookbooks and a travel diary. He was best known for his poetry, however and his work as a doctor.
Tolla Van der Merwe, a local storyteller.
Tertius Willem Jacobus (Tolla) van der Merwe a true South African legend. A Clanwilliam native, television personality and comedian.
His stories took the country by storm. The room contains some of his funniest moments as he journeyed from his early days in Clanwilliam to fame. Tolla sadly passed away but paved the way for his now pop singer son, Wikus van der Merwe.
The Rooibos exhibit, a humble bush now enjoyed internationally
As old as the town itself. Rooibos tea is a local brew made from the Rooibos bush.
Dutch Settlers were introduced to this tea by the locals as an alternative to black tea, which was an expensive commodity. This product is used in many cooking recipes and even beauty products. One of the biggest South African exports and a Clanwilliam cornerstone.
